Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival

Word Festival

Mary King's Ghost Fest

Edinburgh's darkest tales and legendary paranormal activity will be revealed during a new 10 day, city-wide ghost festival. The festival is a unique opportunity to explore the supernatural side of many 'haunted sites', come along and take part in a parapsychology experiment, night vigils, workshops, talks and demonstrations on the subject.


 

Arran Wildlife Festival

Scottish Pipe Band Championship

Competition is keen among the pipe bands competing in the national championship. Come along and hear the pipers, drummers and bands battle it out for the prizes.

 

Four Nations Football Tournament

When: 21st - 27th May 2007    Where: Dingwall, Inverness & Nairn

An annual tournament organised by the Football Associations of Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales for international teams made up from semi professional leagues. The Scotland team will comprise players from the Highland, East and South of Scotland Leagues.

Orkney Folk Festival

An internationally renowned annual celebration of traditional and contemporary folk music, the Orkney Folk Festival is well established in both the local and national folk calendars. Burns an' a' That!

Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival

Medieval Fayre

The Fayre will transport you back to a past when Traquair House - Scotland's oldest inhabited residence - played an important role as a hunting lodge for the Scottish royals and a centre of music and arts. The Sutherland Raid

Spring Fling

Spring Fling is an open door arts and crafts event and the only one of its kind in Scotland. Almost 100 artists and craftmakers across Dumfries and Galloway will be opening their workshops and studios to the public so visitors can see how they work and what they do. Highland Wild Encounters

This fantastic wildlife-watching festival enables you to view northern Scotland's unique wildlife. Angus Glens Walking Festival

Kirkcudbright Summer Festivities

O'Neil Highland Open

O'Neill Europe and the Association of Surf Professionals are taking the high road to Thurso East, Caithness for the inaugural O'Neill Highland Open. This event, part of the World Qualifying Series, will see around 170 surfers compete for the prize purse of US $100,000.

 

Dundee Jazz Festival

Internationally acclaimed jazz stars alongside a host of local talent in this weekend festival which features high quality music and musicians across range of jazz styles.

 

 

 

3 Harbours Arts Festival

When: 1st - 10th June 2007    Where: Prestonpans, Cockenzie and Port Seton, East Lothian

This festival will take place between the three harbours of Prestonpans (Morrisons Haven), Cockenzie and Port Seton in East Lothian and is all about hosting artwork in ingenious spaces - houses, halls, galleries, businesses, etc. There will also be a series of workshops, demonstrations and children's art activities.

 

Leith Festival

Common Riding Festivals

Each Borders town celebrates its history with magnificent rideouts involving hundreds of horses, ridden with a passion worthy of the reivers old. West End Festival

Rock Ness

The annual jazz festival in this picturesque harbour town offers a full and varied programme, with a celebration of classic New Orleans, Dixieland and Swing Jazz, this year with an international flavour. A Brolly Parade and Jazz Church Service add to the festivities.



 

Caledonian Canal Celebration

When: 16th - 23rd June 2007    Where: Corpach, Inverness

This event will highlight the area's culture, the drama of the navigation of the canal and the influences on Highland life using song, musical interludes, story-telling and dance. The visual impact of a fleet of around 20 craft will leave a lasting impression with spectators, participants and the local community.

 

Royal Highland Show

When: 21st - 24th June 2007   Where: Edinburgh

Scotland's premier farming and food event promises this year to be even bigger and better than before. Held over four days, with over 4,000 livestock on show and 1,000 stands selling everything from speciality foods to 4x4s. There's a wide range of entertainment and demonstrations in skills such as cookery and crafts, falconry and fashion.

 

Flavour of Shetland

A celebration of the very best of Shetland on Lerwick's Victoria Pier. The Battle of Bannockburn

When: 23rd & 24th June 2007    Where: Bannockburn

693 years to the day of the original conflict, there will be a spectacular re-enactment of Robert the Bruce's most famous victory over the Auld Enemy at the Bannockburn Heritage Centre.

 

The East Neuk Festival

When: 28th June - 1st July 2007   Where: Various across the East Neuk, Fife

A long weekend of readings and concerts by world-class musicians set in the atmospheric setting of the East Neuk of Fife, one of Scotland's most beautiful areas.

 

Game Conservancy Scottish Fair

When: 29th June - 1st July 2007   Where: Scone Palace, Perthshire

With an extensive range of competitions, displays and demonstrations, the fair is one of the main countryside events of the year in Scotland. Traditional country contests of shooting, fishing and gundogs feature on a varied programme alongside quad biking, military re-enactment displays, food and drink fair, shopping and children's activities.
 

 

Newcastleton Traditional Music Festival

When: 29th June - 1st July 2007   Where: Newcastleton, Borders

With its competitions, ceilidhs, sessions and concerts, the Newcastleton Traditional Music Festival is probably Scotland's longest continuously running traditional music festival. Competitions for bands and individuals feature traditional Scottish music, instruments, song and poetry, and include a separate children's competition.

 

Scottish Traditional Boat Festival

When: 30th June & 1st July 2007   Where: Portsoy, Aberdeenshire

One of the biggest gathering of traditional boats in Scotland, where visitors can discover, enjoy and join in maritime activities, craft demonstrations and a programme of music, dance, drama, food fair and other on-shore family activities.

Tarbert Seafood Festival

Mendelssohn on Mull Festival

A series of open rehearsals, recitals and concerts given by a group of young musicians on the brink of starting their professional careers, mentored by a dedicated group their seniors. The week-long festival plays to packed houses on the island Mendelssohn himself admired so much.

 

The Hebridean Challenge

When: 2nd - 6th July 2007   Where: Outer Hebrides

The Hebridean Challenge is one of the toughest and most demanding adventure races in the world and takes place in the Outer Hebrides. Over 5 days competing teams travel the length of the islands from Vatersay in the south to Lewis in the north with sections of hill running, road running, road and mountain biking, sea swimming and sea kayaking.

 

 

Dundee Guitar Festival

When: 6th - 8th July 2007   Where: Dundee

Scotland's premier annual guitar event celebrates guitar music in its many forms and attracts top artists from home and abroad. Featuring concerts, courses, guest artists and master classes, a contemporary styles long weekend and Scotland's first international guitar competition for young performers.

 

Deep Fried Film Festival

When: 9th - 14th July 2007   Where: Coatbridge and Airdrie, Lanarkshire

Scotland's newest and most exciting film festival featuring films from Scotland and around the world. The Deep Fried Film Festival is an egalatarion festival, open to all and aimed at creating better communication in the media world. Glasgow's River Festival

The River Festival celebrates the Clyde, one of the world's most famous rivers, in a series of events on water and on the riverbanks and land around. The Wickerman Festival

The City of Inverness Highland Games featuring the 2006 World Masters Championships

Edinburgh International Jazz & Blues Festival

The longest-running jazz festival in the UK features all styles of jazz from international artistes in all sorts of venues large and small across the capital. Outdoor concerts also take the music out into the streets of the city. Supplemented by vocal workshops and a summer school for aspiring jazz musicians.

 

European Pipe Band Championships

Hundreds of pipers from around Europe descend on Inverness for two days in a bid to win this prestigious award.

Moray Firth Flotilla

The vision is of a fleet of traditional boats voyaging from Wick to Portsoy with the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival. The ports offering harbour to the flotilla will make the visit a celebration. Ceilidhs bringing music, dance and storytelling will give communities a chance to participate in the event.

Kirkcudbright Summer Festivities

When: 6th May - 27th August 2007   Where: Kirkcudbright

An extravaganza of traditional performances and energetic entertainment! Enjoy many events including Scottish nights in the Harbour Square on Thursdays, Children's Festival, Medieval Fayre, parade day, vintage car rally, culminating in the Tattoo in the shadow of the castle on the final day.

 

Black Isle Show

When: 1st & 2nd August 2007   Where: Muir of Ord

The largest agricultural show in the north of Scotland, the Black Isle Show includes displays of livestock, horses, goats and sheep shearing plus over 350 trade stands selling a wide range of food, crafts, industrial and agricultural machines, household products and clothing. There's also a full ring entertainment programme from early afternoon until the evening, a funfair open on both days and marquee dance to round off the show.

 

Speyfest

When: 2nd - 5th August 2007   Where: Fochabers, Moray

One of the north's foremost Celtic festivals, Speyfest offers a wonderful weekend of high-quality traditional and modern music, concerts, late-night ceilidhs and Celtic rock. Musicans from around the world will be performing as usual, and there's a special programme for children and young people.

 

Perth Show

When: 3rd & 4th August 2007   Where: Perth

This annual two-day agricultural show has something for all the family, including trade stands, a craft and food fair, competitions, exhibitions and a rare breeds tent.

 

Edinburgh Military Tattoo

When: 3rd - 25th August 2007   Where: Edinburgh

Scotland's stunning annual outdoor military spectacular set against the magnificent backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. The Tattoo has been called the most spectacular show in the world and is seen by an international TV audience of 100 million every year. But there's no substitute for being there, as part of the 217,000-strong audience over its three-week season on the Esplanade at Edinburgh Castle.

 

North Berwick International Highland Games

When: 4th August 2007   Where: North Berwick, East Lothian

A traditional Highland Games featuring events such as throwing the Scots hammer, tossing the caber, and Highland dancing competitions throughout the day. The games also hosts the Lothian and Borders Pipe Band Championships with over 70 bands from all over the world competing. The day finishes with a spectacular massed pipe band display.

 

Traquair Fair

When: 4th & 5th August 2007   Where: Traquair House, Innerleithen

Unique event for all the family with outdoor theatre spectacles, world & celtic music, dance, storytelling and a superb programme of childrens theatre, activities and workshops.

 

Pittenweem Arts Festival

When: 4th - 12th August 2007   Where: Pittenweem

The festival was founded in 1982 and since then has grown into one of Scotland's most popular and unique arts events. Each year, 80 or so exhibitions are housed in ingenious exhibition spaces created from artists' studios, garages, courtyards and gardens. Come along, stroll around the village, see the artworks for sale and meet the artists.

 

The Turriff Show

When: 5th & 6th August 2007   Where: Turriff, Aberdeenshire

The largest two-day agricultural show in Scotland and a venue not to be missed for top livestock producers and horse and pony exhibitors. Over 250 trade stands, including a renowned food fayre and an excellent craft fair make for a great day out.

 

Nairn International Jazz Festival

When: 5th - 12th August 2007   Where: Nairn

The Nairn Jazz Festival will promote a unique series of world-class international jazz musicians in the Highland and Islands of Scotland to celebrate the year of culture and expand the access and participation opportunities to the high quality and standard of musicians and promotions associated with this established event.

 

Edinburgh Festival Fringe

When: 5th - 27th August 2007   Where: Edinburgh

The world's biggest celebration of the arts takes over Edinburgh for three weeks in August in a massive explosion of cultural and artistic expression. The programme is a vibrant mix of art forms - theatre, comedy, music and musicals, dance, events and exhibitions and children's shows, all attracting up-and-coming talent and established names from around the world to take part in this most famous of festivals.
