THURSDAY NIGHT AT THE ISLE OF MULL HOTEL, CRAIGNURE.

WHISKY, BEER AND BIRDS

We have plans for tonight!  Keep watching this space for more news ... so far we have arranged for a few completely different parts for the entertainment tonight.  Should YOU wish to BOOK for this night please e mail us directly at:  special@mcleanscotland.co.uk   Tickets will cost £10 per person.  We do not require payment now, just your note of interest.

AFTER DINNER - we will commence the evening event around 8pm there will a fantastic SCOTTISH BIRDS OF PREY DISPLAY left to right: peregrine falcon, snowy owl, European merlin, bald eagle.

The centre is owned by Richard and Sue Dewar. Both accomplished falconers, the Dewars spent their leisure time training and flying birds for display and at game, as well as breeding some species, and caring for injured wild birds. Sue studied raptor biology at the University of Kent Durrell Institute for Conservation and Ecology, and in 1984 was appointed National Co-ordinator of The Hawk and Owl Trust's Barn Owl Conservation Network. Sue has been very active in rescuing and rehabilitating wild injured birds, liaising with the foremost raptor vets in England. In 2000 she successfully released 90% of the birds which were brought to her. Whilst recognising that conventional medicine is necessary, Sue is a great advocate of homeopathic remedies and has had considerable success using these on the birds she has dealt with. Chat with her on the night! Note: birds on display will depend on the weather and Sue's advice.  Should the weather be bad (let's hope not) the birds will fly indoors!

AFTER THE DISPLAY WE WILL RETREAT TO THE PRIVATE BAR.  Whilst in the bar we will have a unique insight into some great Scottish beers including one that you cannot find, or drink anywhere else in the world!  How's that you ask?  Because we are working with the ISLE OF MULL BREWERY to produce a very special brew for the Maclean Gathering: a name with a Maclean theme - wait and see.  I have tried (all in the course of duty you understand) all the beers available by this brewery, believe me, they are well worth sampling!  This special beer, along with others will be available at the hotel whist we are there, available in bottles (big ones!).  We hope to attract a master brewer to come along and tell you why these beers are so good.

CAN THERE BE MORE YOU ASK?  AYE!  We will also be giving you WHISKY TASTING from THE DEWAR'S WORLD OF WHISKY!  How good can an evening get! Well, try it and see ...  For tonight's tasting we have an EXPERT from Dewar's; Peter Guthrie, to lead you through the various whiskies, including a real classic (not to mention expensive). Liz, Paul and Colin will also be around and about during the evening.  This will be a fantastic start to your stay on Mull, we look forward to the night, see you there. The tasting will be held in the downstairs private bar, reserved for mcleanscotland tonight. So you think you know a wee bit aboot whisky?  Well here's your chance to prove it to us.  We may indeed have a wee bit of a laugh and certainly, a dram or five!  See you all there!
