With the itinerary finalised for 2007
and a few gigs and engagements to boot, it
looks like busy times ahead. The players
always put in a huge effort with practices
and contests, so it's only fair that I thank
all the supporters - the wives, husbands,
boyfriends, girlfriends, kids, grannies,
whatever! - for their continued patience
with what is a challenging and time
consuming "hobby". Thanks to all, see you at
Mull of Kintyre.
Pipe Major, Mark Sutherland
Is Mark happy here do you think? Well c'mon
Mark, make sure this year you are holding
more trophies aloft! |
Here we go, here we go, here
we go!!!!!
It’s just
about here! 2007 competition
season is almost upon us!
One year I’ll realise I’m
getting oe’r old for this lark,
but hopefully not too soon!
So far this year we have done
three engagements to assist with
the finances for the season. It
costs a small fortune to keep a
Band going and all these gigs
mount up the cash so we don’t
have to worry too much about
going where we want. We have
gained some sponsorship for this
year, one of which is Keep
Scotland Beautiful, who have
kindly given the Band a nice sum
of money to show their
logo on the Bass drum. Question:
have they SEEN the photo on the
mcleanscotland site???? We have
been looking at the Band and
were commenting on the change of
personnel that has happened over
the past couple of years. We
unfortunately lost most of our
Champion Bass section during the
close season but gained another
class Bass drummer to replace
wee Gary. Felt I’d lost my left
arm when he left! Wee tow rag!
There are also secret moves
afoot to gain us more high
profile sponsors in the future
which is all to the great
benefit of the Band. Unable to
say more as it’s always
dangerous to leak names prior to
signing but!, if it does come
off, it will be magic!

I took pity
on Paul not having a Band kilt,
and throttled ........ errr!,
asked Mark for a piece of cloth
to get him kitted out properly
as a member of the Band. Haven’t
seen him in it yet though………….
He’d better wear it proper like!
More Number 1 kit has been
purchased to replace some of the
older bits of kit. And there we
need another heap of gigs! It’s
essential to replace kit as it
gets tired so’s we can stay at
the forefront of those Bands
getting booked for the
prestigious events. For example,
we were asked to play at a
private function just south of
Edinburgh, normally outside our
‘range’ due to the growing
reputation of the Band for
behaving and playing in a
thoroughly professional manner.
The gentleman that booked us was
thoroughly complimentary re our
performance and promised more
engagements on the strength of
that one performance. It was
also said by another chap that
books the Bands, that we are the
first Band he tries as we are
reliable and professional. It’s
nice when hard nosed businessmen
pay us compliments such as this!
Don’t forget! If you’re coming
over, ask Paul to factor in a
contest into your vacation
itinerary and he’ll get you in
about, as we say. He has a full
list of contests which we’ll be
attending so he’ll have no
bother matching you to one of
them. Reminds me – it’s HIS
round!

Well can I
just say (Paul),
Trust Andy to write a book! when I asked him
for a few lines ... Anyhow, I am really
looking forward to this year's competitions,
I know the band are really up for it and
will do their very best to come out winners
again at the end of the season. I am
calling on all supporters around the world
to send in wee notes of support and best
wishes to the band for 2007. Extra
great news ... I now have my very own band
kilt! No longer will I need prance
aboot on my Maclean tartan looking out of
place. Thanks to big man above for that ...
News and
photos to follow, news from big Andy and pix
hopefully from ME!. This year we hope to
make the Supporters Club bigger, plans are
in hand for this when part of the band play
for mcleanscotland on 15 June in Edinburgh,
watch this space ... and to all you
Maclean's out there on your way over, these
are the guys you will see in Edinburgh.
Just a wee thing different this year, I will
also write some few words while waiting for
Andy to get me his own phrases! |
A LETTER FROM PIGASUS TO THE BAND - WELL,
PAUL AND ANDY REALLY.
So! I send you a letter, you
put it on your Web page and then you forget all
about me! After chasing you all over the country
last year too! I thought I'd better write and
let you know what's been happening with the
Band, seeing as how you've never asked! An
extraordinary amount of hard work has been put
in by the players, in both Bands, over the
closed season. Both Pipe Majors, and players,
are keyed up and wanting the season to start.
The Grade 2 Band are hoping to consolidate their
fine season last year by trying hard for Major
prizes but realise they are up against some hard
fighting outfits. Whilst we hope to get in the
prize list, we won't be too disappointed if it
doesn't happen. The commitment of these players
is unbelievable! Two nights per week minimum
throughout the winter! And it gets COLD here!!
The Grade 4 Band are really
keen to get going. They want to improve on last
year's excellent season by finishing in the
Major prize list after gaining their first one
at Cowal last year. These youngsters are a
credit to themselves, their Pipe Major and to
the organisation. When they gained their prize
last year the Grade 2 were every bit as proud of
them as they were, rightly, themselves! We're
looking forward to seeing them get even more
this year. Both Bands would like to thank all
our supporters for there good wishes and say
they look forward to meeting any of them that
you manage to get to the contests. Oh aye!!
?????and you were spotted eating <GULP!> bacon
rolls last year! You can cut that right out!
PIG.
