COLIN BIRKBECK is the main coach driver for
mcleanscotland, he is also a very good friend and
(oh God how did that happen?) a relative of Paul’s.
If there is one coach driver in Scotland who can
claim the right to say he is “the best” (which Col
does regularly) then it is Colin without a doubt.
Just on our tours alone he has had so many comments
about his driving AND GUIDING that this accolade is
well found.
Col was brought up and now lives still in Glasgow.
Paul normally calls him the “wee man” or “that dodgy
relative of mine” but these are both said with
honesty and a warmth to the wee man hisel’! Many
has been the time we both have been on the town
together and Paul (me) has stayed over at the
Birkbeck mansion in Glasgow.

THOUGHTS OF A TOUR DRIVER
AND GUIDE Guide and driver extraordinaire Colin
Birkbeck, is a passionate Scot and a devoted
Glaswegian. Father of six, problem solver, Gaelic
Diplomat, he has been driving tourists around
Scotland for 26 years including 8 on the Isle of
Mull. At the age of 15 he joined the military
through the Boys Service. After almost three years
he left due to injury. During his years he has been
an active unionist, often going to bat for he fellow
drivers. He likewise goes out of his way to help
his visitors to Scotland. Our problems were his,
after ten days on the road with him, we would
certainly nominate him for “Best Tour Bus driver in
Scotland”. Colin has made this trip a trip of a
lifetime, he is a fort of knowledge on all things
Scottish and is very skilled at relating his
knowledge to our culture.
Paul; oh no! I will have
to push that expanding heed of his through the door
frame now!
