PERTH, SCOTLAND. What is there to see here?
We have three castles, a palace, museum, historic
buildings dating as far back as 1393 still standing!
Superb council chambers with wonderful stained glass
windows, St John’s Kirk from the 15th century,
highland games, old
graveyards full of ancient history, the place where
King James VI was almost assassinated, the smallest
city in the world (we are between two inches), the
Black Watch Regimental Museum, horse racing at Scone
Palace – very popular with jockey’s and punters
alike! Fantastic architecture and a stunning
Conference Centre. Add all of this to the fact we
are an hour from Edinburgh or Glasgow, two from Loch
Ness & Oban, the Trossachs is a wee drive, as is Rob
Roy MacGregor’s grave at Balquhidder! St Andrews is
40 minutes drive, not only that we have golf courses
galore within 20 minutes, including Gleneagles. And
of course Perth Amber Festival with Dougie Maclean.

800th Anniversary
of Perth 2010:

The foundation of Perth as a
Royal Burgh dates back to the King William the
Lion charter of 1210. Provost Hulbert marked
the 800 day countdown ( on 24th October 2007 ) with
a rare appearance of the Royal Burgh Charter awarded
to Perth in 1210 by King William the 1st, known as
William the Lion, who ruled from 1143 to 1214.
The programme of events and activities is being
created for all to enjoy and participate in with the
focus on a series of themes including our heritage,
our future, our communities, culture and sport, the
economy as well as a civic programme.
